Gwent Fire Installation is a Family run
business that installs and repairs wood burning stoves and Multifuel stoves
into new or existing flues.
We pride ourselves in giving a first class service using good
quality materials.
We don't just install stoves, we can service and obtain spares for stoves, (both woodburning
stoves and multifuel stoves), and a full range of flue pipe, we also give
stove related advice and after-sales support for new and regular customers.
Stove Design Service for
Woodburning or Multifuel Stoves
We design
stove installations from simple fireplace fittings to complete new double skin
insulated flue systems and advise you exactly what you'll need for the job of
installing your stove and how much it will cost. That way you can have the stove
arrive at your home complete with everything necessary for us to install it, and
if needed, we liaise with yourself or your builder to make sure that everything
goes smoothly

All advice is
given and questions answered freely, however don’t forget that ALL installations
or work to a chimney are now notifiable to your local councils
building control department. Therefore it is much easier to use a
HETAS registered competent person.
Hetas
The official
controlling body for Multifuel appliances and associated equipment, much like
CORGI is for gas appliances.
Why should I use
a HETAS competent person?
– All those registered with HETAS have to have passed an exam and have enough
experience to be able to provide a service to a certain standard.
HETAS engineers must also
have third party insurance. HETAS conduct inspections of work carried out to
ensure that it not only complies but is also of a good quality and the service
provided has been satisfactory. Any complaints can therefore be directed at HETAS who can follow them up. Using HETAS removes any need for the homeowner to
approach their council as the installation engineer does all of this as part of
the job, thereby ensuring all building regulations are complied with.

The
hearth
 |
Most of the modern stoves are
tested and if shown not raise the hearth temperature to over 100 degrees
centigrade then a 12mm hearth may be used (this could then be achieved with a
piece of sheet glass or normal floor tiles). We can fit any type of hearth you
choose - Slate, Marble etc, we have many suppliers who can offer a great choice. |
Bird Proofing and Rain protection
These two items normally go together because
the equipment used can be easily supplied to do both.
The damage caused by water entering your
chimney flue will eventually cause failure of the flue itself by the chimney
falling apart. A wet or damp chimney will also be harder to warm and slower to
draw. Birds are a great hazard especially if a flue is not cleaned prior to
lighting the first fire in the autumn. a nest will quite easily block a chimney,
some may only partially block the chimney allowing flue gases to escape, the
hazard here is once the heat increases then the nest/nests catch fire a cause a
chimney fire. Gwent Fire Installations can overcome both of these problems very
easily using proprietary equipment.
Survey
Gwent Fire Installations are able to offer a
range of surveys related to Flues and Chimneys
|
Surveys and Installation
reports:
Report 1 - An assessment report on the Current
chimneys status. Which would include Flues, the Chimney draw and Smoke test,
this report also details any short comings relevant to the current building
regulations etc.
Report 2 - The Certification of a DIY
installations or a non-competent persons installation against
building regulation - Approved Document J and associated documents (This will
be required in the home sellers pack if you have had any chimney work or
appliance installation done since 2002).
Report 3 - A Compliance survey of a new build or conversion to assess
and advise clients on work required and the minimum requirements needed.
(This saves a lot of time rather than having problems later).
Report 4 - Problem Solving and and investigation survey, detailing the
engineers findings and solutions. |

Smoke Testing
Smoke testing is conducted when an inspection
or survey reveals a flue which is damaged, eroded or incorrectly built. Smoke
tests are also conducted as a form of risk assessment to eliminate the
possibility of Carbon Monoxide contamination especially when a flue passes
through a bedroom. Our engineers conduct this test if there is the remotest
chance of risk from Carbon Monoxide. Smoke testing may also identify if there is a good draw
on the flue to establish and maintain a fire.
